SystemNix is the predecessor to Clean Wizard. It is a POSIX shell script that performs similar cleanup operations.

Clean Wizard was built to address SystemNix’s limitations: no type safety, no dry-run, no TUI, no JSON output, no retry support.

Feature SystemNix Clean Wizard
Language Shell Type-safe Go
Dry-run No Yes
TUI No Yes
JSON output No Yes
Retry No Yes

go-error-family provides behavioral error classification used by Clean Wizard to drive retry decisions, skip/failed classification, and exit codes.

All Clean Wizard errors classify into 5 families: Rejection, Conflict, Transient, Corruption, Infrastructure.

Nix is the package manager that Clean Wizard’s Nix cleaner targets. The cleaner removes old generations and runs garbage collection while always protecting the current generation.

Docker is targeted by the Docker cleaner, which removes stopped containers, dangling images, unused volumes, and build cache.

Clean Wizard’s TUI is built with:

  • Huh — Interactive forms
  • Lipgloss — Terminal styling
  • Fang — Help command generation

Azure/go-workflow powers Clean Wizard’s parallel execution engine. Cleaners are compiled into a DAG of steps with retry support and panic recovery.
